I was given the task of putting together some visuals for Femme Fatale DC's Bruja Brunch Party that was held at the Howard Theatre. Femme Fatale DC is about empowering women in order for them to discover their “magic” within. This brunch incorporated various forms of “witchy” rituals, good food, and good company.

I began studying various alternative religions and created mood boards for the subjects I found to be fascinating. The first mood board is for the deity (or Orisha) Yemaya, who can be found in both the Ifa and Santaria religions. She is the mother of oceans and life itself. The second mood board is for the deity Oshun, who can be found within the same religions. She is the sister of Yemaya and rules over streams and all forms of abundance and beauty. The last mood board is for Haitian Vodou, Louisiana Voodoo, as well as Hoodoo. All three mix together West African Vodun and forms of Christianity. In the end, I chose to focus this piece on Oshun. This event was a gathering of beautiful women, coming together to make a beautiful pact of camaraderie after all. Some images were repeated, imitating the act of invoking her presence into the event space, in order to bless each and every person in attendance. Adobe After Effects was used to create the visual.
